An ironing service at home in Dubai saves more time than most people expect. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics’ time use survey puts laundry at about 0.17 hours a day per person, roughly 62 hours a year, in its 2025 household activities data, and a basket of work shirts or kanduras can eat a whole evening. This guide compares in home ironing on a cleaning visit with pickup laundries and dry cleaning, explains how to add ironing and laundry help to your visit, and shows what the visit costs.
For most households, the simplest route is to add ironing to a regular cleaning visit. You book it as an extra when you book the clean, the cost is confirmed at booking, and your clothes never leave the house. Pickup laundries suit large loads and dry clean only items, so many families use both.
Three ways to get ironing done in Dubai
Each option suits a different kind of load. This table sets them side by side.
| Option | Where it happens | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ironing added to a cleaning visit | In your home, during the visit | Weekly shirts, school uniforms, bedding and everyday clothes | Book it up front so enough time is planned |
| Pickup laundry or ironing service | At the laundry, collected and returned | Large loads and items priced per piece | Turnaround times, and clothes leave the house |
| Dry cleaning | At the dry cleaner | Suits, silk, wool and anything labelled dry clean only | Not needed for most cotton and polyester clothes |

How in home ironing works on a cleaning visit
On ImpressiFix, all laundry services can be booked as extras: washing, hanging, folding, ironing, changing linen and putting clothes away. Each comes at an extra cost, confirmed at booking, and other extras such as cleaning inside the fridge are added the same way. Adding them when you book means the right amount of time is planned and the price is clear before the visit.
- Book the extra with the clean. Add ironing in your booking notes and say roughly how much there is: a few shirts, a full basket, or bedding as well.
- Set out what you need. A helpful tip: set out your iron, ironing board and hangers with the clothes in one place, and keep anything delicate apart.
- Agree the order of work. Most people want the cleaning done first and the ironing at the end, so pressed clothes go straight into the wardrobe.
- Flag special items. Abayas, kanduras, linen and embellished fabrics take more care and more time, so mention them in advance.
If this is your first booking, our guide to booking a home cleaner in the UAE walks through each step from request to visit.
Laundry help: what to ask for
Ironing is the extra most people ask for, but laundry help often goes with it. All laundry services can be booked as extras, at an extra cost confirmed at booking:
- Washing a load in your machine at the start of the visit.
- Hanging washing to dry, and folding dry clothes.
- Ironing shirts, uniforms and everyday clothes.
- Changing bed linen.
- Putting ironed and folded clothes away.
Laundry and ironing fit best into scheduled visits. Our regular cleaning service runs weekly or twice weekly, and a one off clean works for a single catch up before guests arrive or after a trip.

Read the care label before anything is ironed
The care label decides the iron setting, not the fabric name. GINETEX, the international textile care labelling association, explains the care symbols: one dot in the iron means a maximum sole plate temperature of 120 °C without steam, two dots 160 °C and three dots 210 °C. A crossed out iron means do not iron at all.
- Iron dark clothes and prints inside out to avoid shine.
- Start with low temperature items and finish with cotton and linen, so the iron is not cooled down and heated up again.
- Keep a cloth between the iron and embroidery, sequins or printed logos.
- If a label says dry clean only, set the item aside for the dry cleaner.

These are cleaning visit prices before extras. Ironing and other extras come at an extra cost, confirmed at booking, so you know the full price before the visit. For a weekly budget by hours, see our part time maid Dubai guide. Our deep clean inclusions guide shows which tasks are standard and which are extras.
Get the most from the time you book
- Sort before the visit. Separate what needs ironing from what only needs folding.
- Keep the same day. A fixed weekly slot means clean shirts are always ready for the week. Our home cleaning schedule for busy families shows how to plan the week.
- Leave your own products. If you prefer a fragrance free detergent or starch, leave it out. The US EPA’s Safer Choice label is one way to find laundry products that meet its safety criteria.
- Give feedback early. Say after the first visit how you like shirts folded or hung, and it becomes routine.
Frequently asked questions
Do cleaners usually do laundry?
Many cleaning companies offer laundry help as an add on rather than part of the standard visit. On ImpressiFix, all laundry services can be booked as extras, including washing, hanging, folding, ironing, changing linen and putting clothes away, at an extra cost confirmed at booking. Our regular cleaning service lists what each visit covers.
How much do cleaners charge for ironing?
Some companies charge ironing by the hour and others per item, so ask how the price is worked out. With us, the visit is typically AED 35 to 50 per hour in Dubai and AED 30 to 45 in Sharjah and Ajman, and ironing is an extra at a cost confirmed when you book. You see the full price before the visit, with nothing added on the day.
Can I pay someone to do my ironing?
Yes. You can add ironing to a home cleaning visit, use a pickup laundry, or take items to a dry cleaner. In home ironing keeps your clothes in the house and fits around a regular clean, which is why many families choose it; our booking guide explains how to add extras.
Is dry cleaning better than ironing?
Not for everyday clothes. Dry cleaning is meant for items such as suits, silk and wool that should not be washed, while most cotton and polyester clothes only need washing and ironing at the right temperature. Check the care label: GINETEX’s care symbol guide shows which items can be ironed and at what heat.
Do dry cleaners also iron clothes?
Most dry cleaners press clothes as part of the service, and many also offer pressing on its own for clothes you have washed at home. For weekly shirts and uniforms, ironing at home during a cleaning visit is often simpler, because nothing has to be dropped off or collected. Keep dry cleaning for the items whose label asks for it.
